Experience

After more than twenty years of training and professional career in prestigious centers in countries such as the United States, Germany, England, Portugal and Spain, Dr. Sarela García Santamarina has built an outstanding career as a chemist. She is a Clinical Biochemistry Specialist and has held the position of Group Leader at the Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology of the New University of Lisbon. 

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, she has been working on the Effects of Drugs on Intestinal Flora and on Copper Homeostasis Mechanisms in the Interaction between the Pathogenic Fungus Cryptococcus Neoformans and the Host.

  • Postdoctoral Researcher EIPOD Marie Curie for: Effects of Drugs on Intestinal Flora, at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany.

  • PhD in Biomedical Research, Pompeu Fabra University, Barcelona, Spain. 
  • Degree in Chemistry with a major in Organic Chemistry, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain  
  • Professional Master's Degree in Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, London. 
  • Professional Master's Degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
