For these reasons, TECH has created this Internship program, unique in the academic market due to its 100% practical nature and the real applicability of the knowledge acquired. During 3 weeks, the student will have access to a hospital center of relevant prestige, where they will observe real cases with patients with different pathologies. Thus, you will master the updated recommendations for the practice of advanced CPR or learn how to manage patients requiring extrarenal depuration techniques in the ICU. Likewise, they will implement in his/her practice the close and respectful accompaniment strategies needed by the patient and his/her family, obtaining communication skills to give both good and bad news.

All this, integrated in a multidisciplinary work team that will allow the professional to incorporate the latest procedures in this field into his work methodology. In addition, your hospital stay will be guided by a private tutor, who will be in charge of ensuring that your practical knowledge meets your proposed expectations. Therefore, this Internship program will enable the student to develop, with real patients and in a hospital with state-of-the-art resources, the maximum potential and update their skills in the area of Intensive Care Medicine.

Teaching Objectives

The general objective of this Internship program is to ensure that the professional updates the procedures for the treatment of patients in the ICU in an exclusively practical way, through a stay in a first level hospital center, under the guidance of recognized professionals in this field.

General Objectives

  • Ensure optimal care for the critically ill patient
  • Address the stabilization, diagnosis and treatment of patients who routinely require intensive care, with a current and evidence-based approach

Specific Objectives

  • To perfect the skills necessary for the cardiovascular monitoring of the critically ill patient, for the use of diagnostic means and the treatment of the most frequent and relevant pathologies that affect the hemodynamic status of the patient
  • Discuss specific topics in order to provide answers to some therapeutic problems of special relevance at the present time
  • Perform excellent cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to current criteria, reviewing new developments introduced in the latest clinical guidelines
  • Delve into the management of patients requiring respiratory support
  • Perform management of the patient with severe infection, with special attention to sepsis and infectious pathologies that most frequently require admission to the ICU
  • Address the management of patients requiring extrarenal depuration techniques in ICU, with special attention to the use of citrate in continuous techniques
  • Monitor the neurocritical patient, as well as for the management of some of the severe neurological pathologies that are most frequently admitted to an Intensive Care Unit
  • Practice the management of the severe trauma patient, from initial assessment, to fluid management, vasoactive support, coagulopathy and more specific situations such as management of cranioencephalic, thoracic and abdominal trauma
  • Offer the critically ill patient adequate nutritional support, as well as for the management of glycemia and some of the endocrinometabolic pathologies that most frequently require admission to the ICU
  • Acquire the most updated and necessary skills for the process of organ donation and transplantation in which the physician specialized in Intensive Care Medicine is involved
