Gonzalo Alvar has an extensive professional career in the world of Maritime Law as a specialist in international contracting, with extensive knowledge of shipbuilding contracts and the financial and tax systems applicable to the sector.

He began his career at Sinclair, Roche & Temperley in London, continued for ten years in the legal department of AESA/IZAR (now Navantia) where he was responsible for civil and military contracts, and, since then, he has been a partner at different law firms such as Qvadrigas, Gaulós Abogados and Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP, the latter a leading law firm in the UK with international offices in Singapore, Piraeus, Paris and Madrid.

He has been especially recognized by the prestigious international lawyer's guide Chambers and Partners for advising companies in the maritime sector, being also a regular speaker and columnist in maritime forums and publications; and for his long and continuous practice in the shipbuilding and ship financing sector in Spain, working for shipyards, shipowners and banks. His area of expertise includes shipbuilding contracts, security packages, financing contracts, agency and brokerage contracts, subcontracts and supply contracts, among others.
