Postgraduate Certificate in Ancient History: Prehistory and Egypt.

Prehistory is a period of history comprising the time from the appearance of the first human beings to the beginning of recorded history. In this period humans did not have forms of writing, and knowledge about the period is held through the research of archaeologists and scholars, and the analysis of utensils and tools found in excavations.

During prehistoric times humans lived as hunter-gatherers and were nomadic. Towards the end of the Stone Age, they began to cultivate plants and domesticate animals, becoming farmers.

On the other hand, Egypt is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. It is located in North Africa and is famous for its monuments and constructions such as pyramids, sphinxes and temples.

The history of Egypt is divided into three major periods: the Old Empire, the Middle Empire and the New Empire. During the Old Empire the pyramids were built and the first pharaonic dynasties were established. The Middle Empire saw the consolidation of a centralized government and the flourishing of Egyptian culture. During the New Empire the temple of Karnak was built and the famous queen Nefertiti lived in Egypt.

Religion was an integral part of Egyptian culture and they had gods and goddesses such as Ra, Isis and Osiris. Hieroglyphic writing was used to record information and was captured on monuments and papyri.

In summary, Prehistory was a period when humans lived as hunters and gatherers, while Egypt was an ancient civilization that thrived over time and was characterized by its culture, monuments and hieroglyphic writing, among other aspects.
