Dr. Alfonso Lagares Gómez Abascal is an eminence in the field of Neurosurgery. His main areas of interest and on which he has based his more than 20 years as a Specialist are Cerebrovascular Pathology, especially Subarachnoid Hemorrhage and the Treatment of Cerebral Aneurysms and Vascular Malformations. He has also devoted great attention to Neurotraumatology, being part of international research consortia in this area, such as CENTER-TBI. 

His scientific milestones include his participation in the development of Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at the 12 de Octubre University Hospital, where he works as Head of Neurosurgery Service and his work in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring in new surgeries. A career supported by an unparalleled practice and an excellent academic curriculum, highlighting the Extraordinary Prize he obtained for his Doctoral Thesis Quantitative analysis of the trigeminal ganglion and spinal nuclei of the rat under normal conditions and after deafferentiation.
