Experience

Specialized in Family and Community Medicine, Dr. Miguel Angel Mayer, after more than ten years working as a Clinical Physician in the Spanish National Health System and in Internal Medicine Service and Primary Care, stood out as Director of the Accredited Medical Web Department of the Medical Association of Barcelona, coordinating and managing a quality program, dealing with services related to medical contents based on Health Information Evaluation, Ethics and other educational activities for the general public, Semantic Web, Social Networks and search engines. 

He has been developing different research activities related to Biomedical Informatics as a Member of the Biomedical Informatics Research Program (GRIB) and as an Associate Professor of Biomedical Informatics and Biostatistics in the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. He has also participated in several European projects under DG-SANCO, Internet Safer Action Plan, FP7 and Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) on topics such as: Preventable Diseases, Comorbidities, Internet Quality and Informatics Applications in Health and Biomedicine, acquiring extensive knowledge and experience in different topics such as Health Information Management, Ethics, Real-World Data, EHR, Standards and Web 2.0.  

Within his educational and academic background, it is worth mentioning his degrees as Doctor and PhD in Biomedical Informatics, Master in Public Health, Master in Clinical Medicine and Postgraduate Certificate in Statistics. He is also the promoter of the first Guide of recommendations for Internet users for health purposes within the R+D+I program of the Fondo de Investigaciones Sanitarias (FIS) of the Instituto de Salud Carlos III, of the Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumer Affairs.
