General Objectives

• Update the theoretical and practical knowledge of the dentist in the different areas of Orthodontics, through evidence-based dentistry
• Solve problems in new or unfamiliar environments, with a multidisciplinary approach within the context of Health Sciences
• Integrate knowledge and deal with the complexity of making judgments, while reflecting on the social and ethical responsibilities associated with the application of their knowledge and judgments
• Demonstrate technical skills and abilities, using the most advanced technical equipment

Specific Objectives

• Consolidate structural and radiological anatomical knowledge, as well as the practical considerations that students should apply in the diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic planning of orthodontic patients and those requiring dentofacial orthopedics
• Recognize oral radiology, intra and extrabuccal, with special emphasis on lateral and frontal skull teleradiography. Students will also receive training in other techniques such as simple radiology, ultrasound, CT, CBCT and MRI, especially for the cervico-facial areal
• Diagnose, classify and treat dental malocclusions caused by dental osseo-dental discrepancy by osseo-dental discrepancy
• Determine the individual characteristics of patients, both physical, psychological and social
• Take medical histories, examine patients and take records
• Identify disorders that require treatment, as well as the ideal age to treat each type: Determine the specific therapeutic objectives of each treatment
• Classify the different types of microscrews
• Apply retention protocols for different deformities, as well as the principles and mechanisms involved in physiological rebound and recurrence of malocclusions
• Identify and prevent or treat risk factors for patient relapse
• Describe the alterations in the eruption of canines, incisors, premolars and molars
• Predicting the efficacy and efficiency of the different treatments and the stability of the correction
• Identify the types of ligatures and their use
• Create action plans that complement the different treatments in a comprehensive overview of any complications in orthodontics
• Apply Advanced Treatments in Conventional Orthodontics
• Intervene in the different types of orthognathic surgery

Knowing the different therapeutic approaches and/or the different therapeutic protocols that are possible when planning the treatment of a specific deformity is part of the skills you will acquire throughout this program”
