Clinical research in cardiology has driven the professional career of Dr. Borja Ibáñez Cabrera. After his postdoctoral stay at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, he combines his activity as head of the Cardiology Research Unit at the Fundación Jiménez Díaz and director of the Clinical Research Department at the CNIC. 

His main line of research is myocardial diseases, ranging from the development of myocardial pathologies to the management of clinical trials in which various related therapies are tested. On the clinical side, his activity is focused on the care of patients with acute myocardial infarction. 

Among his merits, he was awarded the Young Talent Award at the Constant and Vital Awards for Biomedical Research and Health Prevention. It was awarded to his research team for their discovery of metroprolol as a useful drug in therapies for severe cases of COVID-19.
