Una parte será de observación del paciente (estado mental, marcha y postura) y otra de examen práctico, que comprenderá la valoración de la evaluación de pares craneales, reacciones posturales y reflejos medulares.

Dependiendo de dónde se encuentre el problema:  en el sistema nervioso central o en el sistema nervioso periférico, la clínica y las pruebas diagnósticas serán muy distintas, siendo muy importante su reconocimiento para llegar a conclusiones definitivas.
